Director of Programs

The Director of Programs will manage the evolution and expansion of Charity Navigator’s ratings system. They will drive progress towards Charity Navigator’s aspirational goal of finding a scalable approach to evaluate organizational effectiveness and impact and be responsible for developing new approaches to current evaluation process and procedure. This includes creating methods and tools for nonprofits to self-report on their efforts and increasing the automation of our current evaluation systems. 

The Director of Programs will contribute to the continuity of the current ratings process and ensure timely delivery of an increasing number of nonprofits evaluated annually. They will oversee the maintenance and improvement to quality improvement and release cycles, data analytic projects, engage in internal/external focus groups, support the development of cause area impact standards, and contribute to industry/sector collaborations. 

This individual will represent the organization as a thought leader on impact assessment and standards creation, and will be responsible for synthesizing sector trends, identifying potential partnerships, and pursuing strategic opportunities that support the goals of Charity Navigator’s 2021 Plan.


  • Insatiable curiosity with a desire to learn and scale current knowledge in a way that enables Charity Navigator to meaningfully evolve its ratings system at scale 
  • 5+ years of demonstrated expertise in program management with exceptional ability to drive progress and build consensus across diverse stakeholders
  • Knowledge and experience of program evaluation principles, theories, concepts, and practices
  • Demonstrated expertise in successfully designing and carrying out quantitative and qualitative research and evaluation processes or standards development in the technology or nonprofit sectors
  • Training and experience in data science, econometrics, or psychometrics statistics preferred
  • Strong public speaker with excellent communication skills
  • Proven ability to organize and perform efficiently under pressure, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines
  • Management experience required
