Senior Development Manager

Charity Navigator seeks a dynamic and experienced Senior Development Manager with excellent fundraising and digital marketing skills to help us fund our organization’s bold five year strategic plan.  The Senior Development Manager is part of a small team that is responsible for the strategy and implementation of all fundraising efforts, with a special emphasis on direct response (direct mail and online) as well as midlevel/major donor stewardship and grantwriting.  A successful Senior Development Manager will engage and cultivate supporters and spearhead new donor conversion and retention initiatives in order to meet or exceed annual revenue goals.

 

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Direct Response (Direct Mail and Online)

  • Develop and execute online fundraising campaigns, to include email, website assets, social media, and remarketing.
  • Develop and execute direct mail donor renewal and conversion campaigns, 2-3x/year.
  • Track and report on the performance of direct response campaigns to inform ongoing strategies and investment.
  • Execute donor thank you campaigns.
  • Manage ongoing, year-round communication with donors and prospects, in coordination with the Marketing/Communications team.
  • Manage day-to-day relationships with vendors, freelancers, and consultants.
  • Establish and grow a monthly donor program.
  • Support the Chief Development Officer in setting the annual strategy and budget.

Midlevel and Major Donors

  • With CDO and Development Coordinator, expand and execute robust midlevel program to identify, cultivate, and upgrade individual donors
  • Support stewardship of current and pipeline major donors

Foundations

  • Conduct prospect research to recommend and support funding proposal opportunities.
  • Work with program staff to draft grant proposals and write reports; ensure timely follow-up according to each funder’s reporting deadlines.

 Other duties as determined by the CDO, to include:

  • Manage CRM, including coordination of system syncs (automated and manual) and as-needed system migration(s).
  • Manage departmental budget tracking.
  • Support donor services to ensure a consistently high level of responsiveness.
  • Partner with HR to select and mentor development intern(s).

  

Background, Skills and Formal Educational Experience:

  • Bachelors degree minimum, with 7+ years professional nonprofit fundraising experience
  • Proven capabilities in donor communication, including the ability to successfully solicit gifts and expand overall donor giving
  • Proven ability to plan and execute innovative online and offline fundraising campaigns, from creative concept through ROI analysis
  • Experience managing multiple projects and the ability to oversee staff, consultants and volunteers
  • Experience with CRM management
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with colleagues throughout the organization
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning to balance short- and long-term goals
  • General understanding of the nonprofit fundraising landscape
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service
